General Assistance

SERVICES: Limited
temporary financial assistance to eligible tribal members who are
without income or resource, and are not eligible for any other state,
federal, or tribal assistance programs. Funding for this program is
through the Bureau of Indian Affairs and is subject to annual
Congressional appropriations.
ELIGIBILITY: Must be an
enrolled member of an Indian tribe; not have sufficient resources to
meet the basic essential needs: reside in one of the eight county
services area (Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw, Ontonagon, Marquette, Iron,
Gogebic, or Dickinson), and meet additional criteria as specified in the
Federal Register.

SERVICES:
LIEAP (Low-Income Energy Assistance)
- Provides heating and
limited weatherization once per year to low-income eligible tribal
households. Funding for this program is administered through the
Inter-Tribal Council of Michigan (ITC)
ELIGIBILITY: Must be an enrolled member of a participating tribe from
Michigan and meet established income guidelines
SERVICES:
SENIOR HEATING PROGRAM
– provides winter
heating or limited rental assistance – provided heat is included with
rent. Assistance is limited to eligible enrolled KBIC tribal members.
Funded by the KBIC Tribal Council.
ELIGIBILITY: Must be an enrolled member of the KBIC, age 62 or older;
must reside in Baraga County or the Marquette trust land
SERVICES:
DISABLED HEATING PROGRAM
– provides winter heating or limited rental assistance – provided heat
is included with rent. Assistance is limited to eligible enrolled KBIC
tribal members that are receiving monthly long-term disability financial
assistance. Funded by the KBIC Tribal Council.
ELIGIBILITY:
DISABILITY HEATING PROGRAM
- must be an enrolled
member of KBIC, the head of household, reside in Baraga County or the
Marquette trust land, permanently handicapped, receiving monthly long
term disability payments. Applicant must be personally and legally
responsible for heating bill or rental payment (if heat is included in
the rent)

SERVICES:
TRIBAL SENIOR AND DISABILITY SUPPLEMENTAL INCOME PLANS
- Provides for limited assistance to enrolled KBIC members residing in
Baraga County or on Marquette trust land. Funded by the KBIC Tribal
Council.
ELIGIBILITY:
SENIOR PLAN
- Be an enrolled member of KBIC, age 62 or older, and physically reside
in Baraga County, or the Marquette trust land – other conditions may
apply.
